Frequently asked questions
When are the health insurance premiums for 2027 published?
The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) approves the premiums and publishes them on 29.09.2026, 14:00 at a media conference. Approved premiums may not be published before then (Art. 16 para. 1 KVAG). Your insurer must tell you the new premium at least two months before 01.01. (Art. 7 para. 2 KVG).
How much will premiums rise in 2027?
According to the FOPH, the average premium for 2027 changes by +5.0 % to CHF 412.00 per month (adults CHF 487.60).
By when can I switch health insurer for 2027?
Your notice of cancellation of basic health insurance must reach your insurer by 30.11.2026; the postmark does not count. The switch takes effect on 01.01.2027. Supplementary insurance has its own deadlines under the general terms and conditions.
What is the average premium?
The average premium is a weighted average calculated by the FOPH across all age groups, deductibles and models (2026: CHF 393.30 per month, adults CHF 465.30). Our own averages on this page are unweighted and apply to a fixed reference (adults aged 26 and over, CHF 300 deductible, with accident cover, standard model). They are therefore higher and not comparable with the average premium.
How do I save the most after premium day?
Compare premiums where you live: in basic health insurance the benefits are the same with every insurer. Consider a GP, HMO or telemedicine model and a higher deductible if you rarely see a doctor. You can raise your deductible for the following year until 31.12.
